ABOUT
I am an artist and high school art teacher living in the south metro in Minnesota. I studied at the University of Wisconsin in River Falls, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Broad Area Arts and a certificate in Art Education. Later, I pursued my Master of Arts in Art Education at Eastern Illinois University. As an artist, primarily I create mixed media collage paintings. When I start a new piece, I begin with a simple idea or inspiration. From there, I create a series of paintings using different styles and mediums. Initially, my compositional ideas may be somewhat loose and undefined, but they gradually gain clarity as I delve deeper into the artistic process. Upon completing these preliminary paintings, I rip into each, carefully selecting specific portions to integrate into a single work of art. The resulting collage becomes a harmonious fusion of different styles and mediums, forming a composition that I cannot imagine until I see it taking shape before my eyes. Subsequently, I continue in the process of adding and subtracting elements to the emerging artwork. Often more paintings are created to make additional bits and pieces to add to the collage. It is a back-and-forth process until nothing is left to modify, and I know the work is complete.
